The Kardashian family has been in pop culture ever since the early 2000's, they have been influencing our society for people my age our entire lives. They stay relevant with all the cool new trends and always look runway ready even when they are just getting lunch with friends. The Kardashians influence has a massive impact on modern day culture but it may not be a good impact for young women. The Kardashian sisters are teaching young girls in society today that their sexuality is most important and that you should show off your body to get attention. On all five Kardashian/Jenner sisters instagrams you can see they all really like to show off their body, they have multiple nude magazine covers and are constantly posting things like "tips on how to get a flat tummy". They are teaching women that they have to be skinny and post pictures of their bodys on social media to make people like you and pay attention to you. What they should be showing women is that you can get attention by achieving something great in life like earning a college degree or feeding the homeless and still get noticed for actions that are positive for the world.
The Kardashian family is known for being very wild with dramatic events happening every episode to keep viewers on their toes. But the Kardashian family isn't all bad, when their step dad Bruce Jenner decided to come out as a transgender the family showed a huge amount of respect on their show. They had a full episode for Bruce to sit down in front of the camera and tell his story of why and how this all happened, the family showed a great amount of support and care for their step dad which helped send a positive message to viewers about transgender people. Kim, Khloe, and Kourtney all openly talked about how they are happy for their dad and how he can be his true self now is a good thing. Having a full episode about this topic was helpful to understand exactly what was happening and how the family dealt with the situation, it made it clear to the views that the sisters were not angry about their dad becoming a transgender but instead they were happy and very accepting. This episode was inspiring to the public because I am sure a lot of other young adults felt more confident about becoming a transgender like Bruce, and it made the topic more talked about on the media which brought positive attention towards the matter.
The Kardashian family does get a lot of hate for everything they post on social media, their posts may not always have a good influence on society but the sisters show how negative comments don't affect them and how to have confidence in yourself which is a good thing. They also brought light to the touchy subject about transgender people and made people more aware and I think brought a positive outlook on transgender people. The family doesn't do a very good job of teaching women how to love how they look in their own skin which I think is affecting society very negatively, but they aren't all bad because they do bring positive awareness to big topics in our society.

ReplyDeleteI agree with your opinion on Bruce Jenner and how he has made people feel more comfortable about being transgender. I think that the Kardashian girls are negatively effecting women in todays society with their constant nudity and runway-ready looks. It is making women think that the important things in life are their bodies and physical looks. I think you put a lot of great information about the Kardashians and portrayed them how they are portrayed in the media as well.
ReplyDeleteI follow the Kardashians on Instagram so I have seen the pictures and promotions they post on their accounts. I agree that sometimes their topics of what diets to try and what ways to workout to make your body skinnier are sometimes overwhelming. Just recently Kim posted a nude picture that started a huge uprise on how she posted it and she has three kids. You did a great job in your post!!

ReplyDeleteI agree with your opinion on how the Kardashians make girls believe the only thing that is important is how you look. I would love to see the Kardashians promote more positive messages on education or bettering the world like you said. One thing I have noticed in the Kardashians though (especially the older ones) is now that they have kids and are starting families, they aren't filled with as much drama as they used to be. With Kim being held at gun point, I think this changed her view on what is important in life and I've seen a shift in attitude from her. Your article had some great points and it's crazy to me that the Kardashians are as influential as they are. Great job!
